Welcome to the Fingal Harriers

The Fingal Harriers were established in 1849 when Mr. George Woods of Milverton and Captain Preston of neighbouring Gormanstown Castle united their two private packs.

Fox and hare are hunted across north county Dublin lands bordered by the Tolka and the Delvin rivers. The hunt kennels are based in Tymoole near Tara, Co. Meath.

The Fingal Harriers Hunt is a registered hunt with “Recognized Hunt” status in the Irish Masters of Harriers Association.

Hunting with the Fingal Harriers is very much centered on a good days hunting to be enjoyed by all in the field. As with any sport, we do have some important rules to protect our Landowners, the field, our staff and the pack. We need the help of all involved to ensure a safe and enjoyable day for all. The Fingal Harriers maintain the highest standards in regards to field etiquette. The hounds are owned by the hunt which is a non- profit organization, and the support of all involved is critical and greatly appreciated

The Fingal Hunt maintains approximately 20 “couple”, meaning 40 hounds, with a pack of 20 to 30 hounds hunting on a given day. The hounds are controlled throughout the day by the huntsman through his use of “voice” and “horn”. While the huntsman has a plan for each hunt, it is the game which ultimately determines the direction and challenges of the day. The hunts generally cross many properties crossing ditches, hedging or through gates. Depending on the time of year, scenting conditions, and the rigors of the day, hunts usually last anywhere from 2 to 4 hours.
